Atchison Area Community Garden
Atchison, KS

The Atchison Community Garden idea started when the City Park Advisory Board was asked how to utilize three decommissioned ballparks for better public use. The Board recognized the great desire for a garden among residents; moreover, they also saw a tremendous opportunity to increase support for local food donation programs which had been greatly underserved in recent months. The space will accommodate 12 to 15 garden plots (10’ x 20’) for individuals or families to rent for $30/plot. The remaining plots will be reserved specifically for volunteer organizations that donate their harvested produce to area food banks.

Kansas Community Garden Grant funds will be used to install frost free hydrants, water lines and valves; prepare the soil and purchase a storage shed, signage, tools and supplies.
