Boys and Girls Clubs
The Boys and Girls Clubs garden consists of growing areas in two separate locations. One site is at Boys and Girls Club site. At this site volunteers work with youth in the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program where they learn about composting and proper gardening techniques. The youth also help keep data and harvest produce from the K-State vegetable research garden. Through gardening projects member produced 1,500 lbs. of fresh produce that were provided to their families and the community.
The second site is located at the Faith Community Garden in South Hutchinson. This site helps allow the program to reach its full potential by engaging the youth from the Boys and Girls Club and their parents in food gardening activities. Eventually this location will transition from one large plot to several more individual plots.
Funds from the Kansas Community Garden Grants will be used for irrigation supplies, soil preparation, a tiller, tools and gardening supplies.
