Healthy Neighbors Community Garden
Belleville, Kansas

        The Healthy Neighbors Community Garden is a communal garden sponsored by the First Baptist Church. The obesity rate of Republic County is well above the state average. The garden will be utilized by the entire community with a mission of addressing the urgent need to fight obesity and encourage healthy eating and physical activity while promoting positive family interactions. The church has purchased a rundown property on a large lot that is in close proximity to the church. The house will be torn down and replaced with a more positive element by providing a community garden.

        Funds from the Kansas Community Garden Grant will be used to remove the house, prepare the site, install water lines and irrigation system, fence the property, and purchase a shed and gardening tools.
