Sterling Community Garden
The goal of the Sterling Community Garden is to make a garden plot available for anyone in the community. Rice County has the 6th lowest per capita income in the state according to the most recent census data, so the garden was envisioned as a way to help the community be healthier, more self-sustaining, and address local hunger issues. Twenty plots (20’ x 30’) are available to rent for $30 per year. Plot fees will be used to help defray garden expenses. Additional funds received from the South Central Community Foundation were used to drill a well. Donations and in-kind support were secured from the United Presbyterian Church of Sterling and USD 376. Land was donated to the church by Norman and Ida Mary Dauber to use for the garden.
Kansas Community Garden Grant funds will be used to purchase tillers and tools, to purchase irrigation materials and to acquire a pressure tank to complete the water well/irrigation installation
