Community Garden at the Center of Grace, Olathe, Kansas Providing minority families with access to fresh vegetables, and engaging the growing Hispanic population in Southwest Olathe are two of the major goals of the Community Garden at the Center of Grace. The garden is a joint project of K-State Research & Extension and Grace Community Church, with help from Extension Master Gardeners and the English as a Second Language (ESL) class held at the church. Next year a Spanish interpreter will assist with the project. Seventeen individual garden plots are available for rent. An additional 48 sq. ft. demonstration garden demonstrated best gardening practices and provides fresh produce to use in the weekly Center of Grace community dinners. Grant funds were used to install water lines, build a shed, and to purchase tools, benches, three picnic tables and trellises.
