Erie Community Garden
Erie, KS
The Erie Community Garden is a place for people to come together to grow food and share produce with the goal of building a sense of community, sharing knowledge and producing fresh vegetables. The garden features both a communal garden bed and individual plots. The city of Erie is a partner with the garden and has agreed to provide free water and electricity to the site. Plot fees are used to help cover garden expenses. In-kind donations solicited from the community have helped provided needed equipment including a shed and garden tools. The garden is also utilized by the local elementary school and the Southwind Extension District (K-State Research and Extension) for educational programs.
Funds from the Kansas Community Garden Grant will be used to construct raised beds and to purchase mowers, tools, fencing, tables, signage, bulletin board and mulch/compost for soil improvement.
