Hillcrest Community Garden, Kansas City, Kansas Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Kansas has 37 living units which house around 20-30 families and 10-20 single people. The Hillcrest Community Garden's goal is to provide fresh produce for the homeless families living in the complex. In addition, the garden will serve as an educational setting for residents where they can learn how to grow their own food. When they graduate from the program and move into their own home they will have to skills to continue to save money and eat nutritional food. Cooking classes are held to help residents learn how to prepare the garden produce. Grant funds were used to purchase drip irrigation supplies, garden tools and equipment.
