Lake Dabinawa Association's Community Garden, McLouth, Kansas
Access to fresh produce is a challenge for residents of the lake Dabinawa area. The Lake Dabinawa Association's garden is located on land adjacent to the southwest area of the lake. The goal is to involve not only the lake community of 172 homes, but also the local 4-H club, the Jefferson County Extension Office, the county health department, the water district and the food banks of the two McLouth churches. Gardeners donating  produce for the food banks or to be sold to offset some of the garden's expenses are eligible for a reduction in plot rental fees for one of the 36 plots. Grant funds were used to prepare the garden site and set up an irrigation system utilizing water from the lake for the garden.
