Lions Community Garden
Jetmore, KS
The Lions Community Garden project at the Hodgeman County School is a collaborative effort of the Jetmore/Hanston Lions Club, the Hodgeman County Extension Office and Hodgeman County Extension Master Gardeners (K-State Research & Extension), the Hodgeman County School/USD 227, the high school FFA organization and the City of Jetmore. The community has an active food pantry that will benefit from produce donations from the garden. After considering several sites the garden was established on some unused land at the FFA barns and OWLS garden area on the east edge of town. The goal of the garden is to provide public access to those not having a garden area, and to provide an area that brings people outdoors, promotes exercise, provides gardening education and helps share an awareness of the importance of good nutrition.
The group requested funds from the Kansas Community Garden Grant project to build a fence, install culverts for the garden entrance, install a water meter and water lines, and to purchase a shed and garden tools.
