NEK-CAP Community Gardens, Hiawatha, Kansas
The NEK-CAP (Northeast Kansas Community Action Program) Gardens will be located on two sites in Hiawatha, Kansas. Since Brown County ranked 89th out of 105 Kansas counties regarding the attributes of living healthy lifestyles, the community felt it important to encourage changes at the basic levels of personal habits. The gardens will help improve access to healthy foods for the community. Grant funds were requested to purchase a storage shed, hand tools, a tiller, irrigation supplies, deer fencing and compost bins.
