The Arc of Sedgwick County Rows of Sharin’ Garden
Wichita, KS

The vision for the Rows of Sharin’ garden is for the Arc of Sedgwick County Self Advocates, special education students, families, friends, neighbors and volunteers to come and work together in the garden. The vision for the garden came from a retired special education teacher who is also an Extension Master Gardener. She saw the potential for a garden to help develop the gardening knowledge, social skills, friendship and confidence of the Self Advocates. The Self Advocates have come together at least two evenings a week with the volunteers and Master Gardeners to water, plant, weed, mow, edge and pick produce. Many have become so committed to the garden that they come other times on their own.

Kansas Community Garden Grant funds will be used to purchase a storage shed, a tiller, a mower, and tools. Funds will also be used to purchase materials for beds, a water timer to help control water usage and benches for community gatherings.
