Tyler Towers and Park Plaza Community Garden
Topeka, KS

The Tyler Towers and Park Plaza Community Garden is a communal garden located near the Tyler Towers and Park Plaza, public housing units that are designated for elderly or disabled residents. Since the housing projects are located about a mile from the closest grocery store many residents do not have access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh produce harvested from the garden will help residents increase their consumption for fresh fruits and vegetables. Garden produce will be available to all the residents with the creation of a food bank. A secondary purpose of the garden is to produce a “success zone” within the neighborhood where people of different ages, experiences and skills can come together for a common goal of producing healthy food.

The garden requested funds from the Kansas Community Garden Grant to purchase tools and equipment, irrigation supplies, a compost bin and other basic gardening supplies to help establish the garden.
