Washington PRIDE Committee Community Garden
Washington, KS

The goal of the Washington PRIDE Community Garden is to provide garden plots for residents who do not have enough area to plant a garden at their home. The garden is a project of Washington PRIDE with support from the River Valley Extension District (K-State Research & Extension). The PRIDE group surveyed local residents to determine local needs as part of a healthy communities project. The community garden will provide a way to help meet many of the goals identified by the survey. The garden will provide a venue for residents to grow their own food and produce fresh vegetables for distribution to the needy. The garden will also provide a site for physical activity, nutrition education, social interactions and community gardening events.

The garden requested funds from the Kansas Community Garden Grant program to purchase a storage building, garden tools and compost bins, site soil preparation, and to cover the cost of installing a water meter, hydrants and irrigation lines.
